Discussion Part One (graded)

You are a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) employed as a contact employee in a busy primary care practice for 2 years. The providers in the group include one physician, who is also the owner of the practice, and two other nurse practitioners. The owner of the practice recently made comments about the need to produce more revenue. You relate with his concerns and feel that you have several strategies that could be helpful. Your contract is up for renewal in 3 months. You are highly satisfied with your job and want to stay in the group. You see 20 patients per day on average, and take call every third weekend.

Discussion Question:

What negotiation strategies should you use to propose a contract renewal? Use logical reasoning and provide evidence based rationales for your decisions. Keep in mind that your negotiation terms and conditions must be within the legal scope of practice for an ANP.

dq 2
Discussion Part Two (graded)

As revenue generators, NPs must be aware of how their work contributes to the overall revenue of the clinical practice. You see 20 patients per day on average, and take call every third weekend. According to Buppert (2011), an NP who sees 15 patients per day at $56 per patient visit, on average, brings in $840 per day. Allowing 1 week off for continuing education, 1 week off for illness, and 4 weeks off for vacation, this NP will bring in $193,200 a year, potentially. However, not all bills are paid. With a 90% collection rate—a reasonable collection rate for an efficient practice—this NP actually will bring in $173,800 per year. An NP who sees 24 patients per day will bring in $1344 per day, or $309,120 per year in accounts receivable. With a 90% collection rate, this NP will bring $278,208 to the practice (Buppert, 2011).

Discussion Question:

In this scenario, what are you “worth” to the practice? Use logical reasoning and provide evidence based rationales for your decisions. Keep in mind that your negotiation terms and conditions must be within the legal scope of practice for an ANP.

dq 3

Discussion Part Three (graded)

Establishing a salary can be a challenge for NPs. Deducting 40% of the NP’s gross generated income for overhead expenses (rent, benefits, continuing education, supplies, malpractice, lab expenses, and depreciation of equipment) leaves $104,280 for the 15-patient-per-day NP and $166,925 for the 24-patient-per-day NP. Further deducting 15% of that figure to pay a physician for consultation services leaves $88,638 in salary for the 15-patient-per-day NP and $141,887 in salary for the 24-patient-per-day NP. Deducting 10% for employer profit leaves $79,775 in salary for the 15-patient-per-day NP and $127,699 for the 24-patient-per-day NP (Buppert, 2011).

Discussion Question:

What salary would you propose for the contract renewal? Use logical reasoning and provide evidence based rationales for your decisions. Keep in mind that your negotiation terms and conditions must be within the legal scope of practice for an ANP.

Question

1) Describe graphically and algebraically with minimal (but necessary) discussion how the demand function and the inverse demand function relate to the two ways of defining a demand curve, as well as a change in demand.

2) Describe graphically and algebraically with minimal (but necessary) discussion how the supply function and the inverse supply function relate to the two ways of defining a supply curve, as well as a change in supply.

3) Suppose there is an increase in the marginal cost of production for firms in a perfectly competitive industry. Describe graphically with minimal (but necessary) discussion the impact this has on the market in terrns of change in equilibrium price and quantity. Outline the process of movement from one equilibrium to the next.

4) We define two goods as complements using the definition that “A is a complement to B if an increase in the price of A leads to a decrease in the demand for B.” What is the important “ceteris paribus” assumption that is necessary for this definition to be accurate.

5) Using a graphical analysis with minimal discussion, in what sense is an increase in a binding minimum wage argued to be good for some, but not good for all minimum wage workers? In what sense does your answer to this question depend on whether the time frame under consideration is soon versus later?

6) Suppose the elasticity of demand is equal to one at each point on a demand curve. Graph this particular demand curve and explain why the elasticity of demand equals one at each point.

7) Using calculus, show how MR is related to the elasticity of demand. Summarize the implications for TR. In what sense does this imply a single price monopolist would always produce where demand is elastic?

8) Suppose the inverse demand function is P Solve for the Ed for this demand curve.

How does the Ed vary as one moves along the demand curve.

9. Ceteris paribus, graphically show why government revenues from a particular per unit tax are greater if demand and supply are relatively inelastic.

10. Show why the MRSAforB is equal to the MUA/MUB.

11. With good A on the “X axis,” what is the implication of a horizontal PCC in terms of the elasticity of demand for good A. Briefly and succinctly explain your answer?

12. Describe graphically with minimal (but necessary) discussion the Hicksian income/substitution decomposition that would lead to a perfectly inelastic demand curve.

13. Describe graphically with minimal (but necessary) discussion the Hicksian income/substitution decomposition that would lead to a situation with an income effect equal to zero.

14. Describe graphically with minimal (but necessary) discussion the EV, UEV, EU of the gamble, and MWP for the following gamble: P 1=30% of $500 and P2=70% of $0. Why does the answer to your question depend on whether the individual is risk averse or risk loving?

15. What is meant by the present value of utility of an event to occur in the future? What is meant by the discount rate? How does the discount rate effect the current utility of a future event.

16. Mathematically, why does the law of diminishing returns imply MC increases as output increases?

17. How are “returns to scale” related to “economies of scale”?

18. With a general profit defined as = TR-TC, what are the F.O.C. and S.O.C. for profit maximization? What is the economic relevance of these two mathematical conditions?

In what sense are these different for a firm in a perfectly competitive industry?

19. Why do we model the perfectly competitive firm as facing a perfectly elastic demand curve when the market demand curve is not perfectly elastic?

20. Describe graphically with minimal (but necessary) discussion why the MC curve above minimum AVC is the firm’s supply curve.

21. Based on your discussion in last question above, why would a per-unit tax of $1 per unit shift the firm’s supply curve up vertically by $1?

22. What is VMP of labor? How does this concept relate to the demand for labor by a firm in a perfectly competitive market? In what sense is this demand curve related to the condition that firm’s will close down if total revenue is less than total variable costs?

23. As discussed in class, what is meant by the concept of “duality” in reference to the firm choosing the profit maximizing output versus the profit maximizing level of the variable input in the SR?

24. Suppose there is a single price profit maximizing monopolist. Using marginal and average cost curves, graphically depict the situation in which the monopolists earns zero economic profit.

25. Using calculus, show the relationship between Marginal [Revenue and elasticity of demand. Then, assuming a linear inverse demand function of the form P = A-BQ, show graphically and explain the relationship between the linear inverse demand curve and the marginal revenue curve as related to elasticity of demand.

26. Why does a perfectly price discriminating monopolist face a marginal revenue curve that is identical to the downward sloping market demand curve faced by the monopolist.

27. Assume a perfectly price discriminating monopolist in the LR. Graphically depict the optimal quantity this monopolist would produce. Using the MR and MC curves, shade in the area on the graph that depicts TR and TC.

estimate 82 of 02, with n1 + n2 — 2 degrees of freedom. ((1) (2 points) Show that the regression t—test of 51 = 0 is the same as the equal variance
t—test of #1 = #2. (e) (2 points) Show that the ANOVA F —test for #1 2 #2 is the square of the equal
variance t—test of M1 2 n2.

Problem 5. Suppose X1, X2, . . . ,Xn are i.i.d. observations from a uniform distribution on
the interval [6′ — 1/2, 6 + 1/2]. (a) (5 points) Write down the likelihood function of 0. (b) (5 points) Show that any 6 between Xmax — 1/2 and ijn+ 1/2 maximizes the likeli-
hood, and therefore, can be taken as the MLE, where Xmx = max{X1, X2, . . . ,Xn}
and Xmin = min{X1,X2, . . . ,Xn}.

Problem 6. Suppose X1, . . . ,Xn are i.i.d. from a continuous distribution with probability
density function IV few) = exp(9 – 393;), a: 0, where 6 E (—00, 00).
(a) (2 points) Find the MLE of 0.
(b) (3 points) Denote the MLE of 6 from a random sample of size n by 9“. Find the
asymptotic distribution of «509", — 6).
(c) (2 points) Give an approximate 95% con?dence interval of 6 when n 2 30.
(d) (3 points) Propose a test statistic for testing Ho : 9 = 0 vs. H1 : 9 % 0 when n 2 30,
and specify the rejection region for a = 0.01.

What’s Going on Here?

Bill Smith and Lana Kane seemed to have had some “bad chemistry” the day they met. Bill, 23, a recent graduate and now working on his MBA, has been with the Marketing Group for a year. He is eager to excel, thrives on instant (especially positive) feedback, and is accustomed to participative, entrepre-neurial work relationships. Upper- level management has been impressed with his work and has given him “free reign” on most assignments, since the Marketing Group had been without a director for the past year. Lana, 51, has been with the company for nine years and has just been assigned to head up the Marketing Group. Lana is accustomed to a more structured, orderly ap-proach and also takes her se niority seriously. Bill was preparing a pre sen ta tion on a new promising product launch for the company’s CEO and offi cers when he found an e-mail from Lana asking to review and approve his pre sen ta tion before he submits it to Ralph, the CEO.Lana’s e-mail was critical of several of Bill’s ideas, and she asked to meet with him. At their one- on- one meeting the following afternoon in Lana’s offi ce, they immediately started clashing. Lana politely but straightforwardly read her responses to Bill’s e-mail, and Bill couldn’t remain silent. He chal-lenged her on every point, refusing to accept her logic. Lana grew tense and fi nally lashed out at Bill saying, “Can’t you be more open to diff erent perspec-tives? My role is to off er criticism to improve our eff orts, not only to always give praise.” Bill was frustrated and hurt that Lana couldn’t see the same talent in him that upper management saw. “Why is she so stubborn and control-ling?” he thought as he folded up the paper with her comments about his pre-sen ta tion. Ner vous ly pondering the situation before leaving her offi ce, he thought, “Maybe I should talk to Ralph about her. If I have to work with this style, I should pack my bags today.” At the same time, when Lana looked at Bill’s expressions, she thought, “I’m not sure this guy ‘gets it.’ He’s bright but too spoiled, and not tough- skinned enough to take helpful criticism. I wonder if I should talk to HR [human resources] about him?”

Discuss the demography, economies, and politics of the Spanish, French, Dutch, and English colonies in North America in the years 1500-1700.

Think critically about life during this time period in the colonies of North America. If you could travel back in time, which colonial settlement would you have wanted to settle and why? Provide specific demographics to explain where you would settle. For example: New England, Middle, or Southern colonies if you choose the English colonies. Provide an explanation and analysis for all your decisions.

When responding to classmates, include additional information for why you also agree with their decision or information explaining why you do not agree with their choice.

Make sure to provide cited information to support your positions. All work must be in APA format.
